The bangles in the window look alike at first, but they are built differently, and that difference decides both how they sit and what they cost. These are the three we are asked about most.

Ajda

Slim and light in profile, which makes it the best suited to daily wear. It does not weigh on the wrist, does not catch on clothing, and does not look bulky when several are worn together.

There are variants: zigzag, ribbed, grooved. Those change the surface; the structure stays the same. Which one suits you is purely a matter of taste, with no meaningful difference in durability.

Burma

Formed by twisting two or three fine wires around each other. That construction gives it a traditional look and a visible texture; light falls on it differently than on a flat surface.

It reads slightly heavier than an Ajda. Because it also stands out worn alone, people who dress simply and want a single piece usually go for Burma.

Kibrit (matchstick)

Named for its thinness: as slim as a matchstick, and straight in form. It is not made to be worn alone but to be stacked.

Three to five worn together give a lively, catching-the-light effect on the wrist. It is also a style that lends itself to being added to one at a time over the years.

Purity and workmanship

All three are usually 22 karat. A bangle's price has two parts: the gold value by weight, and the workmanship. On these three the workmanship share is relatively low, because the forms are simple and production is standardised.

That is what makes them suitable as a store of value: most of what you pay goes into the gold itself rather than the making. On heavily worked pieces, stone-set pieces or bespoke work, that ratio moves the other way.

Which suits you?

If you will never take it off, Ajda; if you want one piece that stands out, Burma; if you want to build up over time, Kibrit. But that is a rough guide; how each sits on your own wrist varies from person to person.

Do not decide from a photograph. Gold colour never translates to a screen, and a bangle's weight only registers once it is on. Come in and try all three.

All three styles are in our collection; how they sit only shows in the shop.
